Summary: "Boring"

This book may have been the result of good intentions, but it just didn't hit the mark for me. I was hoping to relate to the stories, get a good laugh, and maybe even be encouraged to see the lighter side of things. None of that ever happened. I was so bored, I stopped reading before the end. (As this book is a collection of stories, I don't think I missed anything important by ending it early.) It just seemed like a waste of time.

Summary: "Finding joy amidst the strangeness of marriage!"

Ken Davis has kept our family in stitches with his unique brand of humor. When I learned he'd written a book about finding laughter in marriage and that it can often be the glue between "I do" and "ever after", I jumped at the chance to read it.

"Happily Ever After" is a collection of real life stories from couples who've been married for all lengths of time and of all ages. In a nutshell, the book encourages us to laugh at those moments that sometimes put stress or strain on a marriage relationship, learning to look at the lighter side.

Ken opens the book with an introduction illustrating how we often don't listen fully to our spouse. As he asks if his wife got "The Bourne Ultimatum", she responds with "I have no idea what a porn tomato is!"

What follows are brief anecdotal essays from some well-known Christian comedians like Kendra Smiley and Bob Stromberg, as well as some I met through reading this book. Topics such as expectations that change over time, home cooking cajun style (think inferno), and getting directions are covered.

Each section ends with a Laugh Lesson, a practical way of looking for and finding the humor in the moments of your marriage. Some stories are laugh-out-loud hilarious---kept my husband awake during those chapters!

Others are heart-warming chuckles, but I think you'll be able to find you and your spouse in just about every situation. "Happily Ever Laughter" is the perfect anniversary gift for any year (I think 10th might be paper...not sure on that!), and for any couple.

I'm giving this one four out of five bookmarks, with a set of rings as a charm. My husband and I have been married 25 years this year, and I know laughter has helped us through some strange times, some tense times, and given us lots of joyous memories.

My thanks to my friends at Tyndale for blessing me with this book. "Happily Ever Laughter" is available now in bookstores everywhere!

Summary: "a Feel good book"

I love to listen to Ken Davis. He is a really fun guy and is able to tye up everyday life in a few minutes and leave you smiling and laughing. Other people in this book I have never heard of but I will definitely be looking them up. That is one neat thing about this book , at the end of each chapter there is a little blurb about the person who wrote it and their website.

Almost all the of the chapters have a quote from someone about marriage or relationships. One of my favorites is by Ruth Graham (Billy Graham's Wife) " I'm certainly glad my husband and I are not exactly alike; if that were the case, oneof us wouldn't be necessary"

As is the case in most marriages, my husband and I have been going through a tough time financially which has made everything seem tough but this book brought a smile to my lips and helped me to remember some of the good times in my marriage. Definately a feel good book.

Summary: "Marriage Can Be A Series of Funny Events"

When I first chose this book I was hoping for an easy read, something funny, as I had just finished a few serious books. Let me just say; I was not disappointed. This book is compiled with stories from different authors such as; Chonda Pierce, Ken Davis, Jeff Allen, Kendra Smiley and others.
Let's face it, sometimes marriage can be serious, and like one person said, "sometime is can be seriously funny".
This book is a quick read it, touches on so many subjects in marriage and makes us look at them from a funny side, for example;garage sales, home repairs, clogged toilets, babysitters gone bad, road trips, anniversaries, the before and afters of weddings (taking a look at ourselves 20 years or more down the line). And the list goes on. I found myself laughing out loud at times.
I know marriage does have it's time when you need to be serious, but God also has brought man and woman together to love and enjoy eachother, and that does include LAUGH together. Thank goodness for that or marriage would be quite dull.
This book was well written, I would definitely recommend it to marriages that are just beginning and to those that have been well seasoned. A great gift for any occasion!

Summary: "Happily Ever Laughter book review"

Happily Ever Laughter edited by Ken Davis is a compilation of several funny stories from Christian comedians on the subject of marriage. Each vignette also includes a famous quote or two, a laugh lesson that ties the story together and information about the author including a website. The authors touched on many aspects of marriage including weddings, holiday adventures, cooking, technology, camping, extended family and much more.

I really enjoyed this book and liked to read about the humorous side of marriage. I laughed alot and read many stories to my husband. I also loved the quotes sprinkled throughout the book. What I liked most was that even though it was a Christian book, it was very light and inviting. It would make a great gift for any married couple whether Christian or not. The message of having fun in your marriage is really an idea to keep on the forefront with your loved one. Live, love and laugh!
